Since its formation in 2001, Fedict and its partners have already implemented a large number of innovative projects. Below you will discover the most important ones.

Technical introduction of the European Services Directive
The European Services Directive makes it simpler for companies in the European Union to do business. Among other things, the directive states that a company must be able to carry out all obligatory procedures electronically and remotely. Moreover, all information must be available remotely.

Signing Box
Sign.belgium.be is an eID application that was launched in 2009 together with Mybelgium. Thanks to this website, citizens can sign documents with their eID and verify the validity of electronic signatures.

Suske and Wiske
´The Sinister Site´ is a special edition of the adventures of Suske and Wiske. Its purpose is to make children aware of the dangers of the Internet, such as spam and viruses, of the risks involved in chatting and what to do to protect yourself.

Kids-ID en Hallo Ouders
The kids-ID is the identity document for children under the age of 12. The kids-ID is valid as an official travel document within Europe as well as in several non-European countries. With Hello Parents, the card offers children extra protection in emergencies.

eID
The electronic identity card, or eID, is the legal identity card in Belgium. Naturally, you can use this card to prove your identity and to travel in EU countries. However, the microchip on the card offers many other possibilities as well.

Start2Surf
Start2Surf was an initiative of the federal government from 2009-2010 to increase computer and Internet use among Belgian citizens. With Start2Surf @home, the federal government focused on all Belgians who still did not have an Internet connection at home. Start2surf PC Bonus focused on employers. They were able to give financial incentives to employees on modest incomes to buy a computer package.

PC phobia
E-government can ony work if citizens and companies (can) make use of it. That’s why Fedict has been promoting secure computer and Internet use for years. The PC phobia campaign from 2005 is a good illustration of this. This awareness-raising campaign demonstrated that there is no reason to be afraid of PCs and the internet if you just take a few simple precautions.

Internet for everyone
In 2005-2006 the government implemented the project ´Internet for Everyone´ with the aim of increasing Internet penetration in Belgian homes and getting more people involved in the information society through a bundled offer of a computer, software, training, a card reader and an Internet connection.

Digital divide action plan
At the 2003 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, Belgium committed itself to drawing up a national action plan to tackle the digital divide. This aim was further strengthened by the European Action Plan i2010. The action plan to reduce the digital divide was developed in part by Fedict.

Mobility survey
Every three years the federal government conducts a survey on travel between home and work among companies with more than 100 employees. The information is used to map out traffic flows in Belgium. To keep the administration of this task simple, the data are collected via the Internet.

European Presidency: ´Lift-off Towards Open Government´
As part of the Belgian Presidency in the second half of 2010, Fedict organised the ´Lift-off Towards Open Government´ conference on 15 and 16 December.

Police-on-web
Since 2007 citizens have been able to report minor crimes online by using the application Police-on-web. In addition, the so-called “absence notification” and Aline - which allows you to register alarm system installations online - are also accessible via Police-on-web.

Eurtransbel
This application is used by the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs to monitor the transposition of European directives into Belgian law.

Web-DIV
Thanks to Web-DIV, companies and insurance brokers can apply for number plates and register vehicles via the Internet.

Tax-on-web
Private individuals and the self-employed can complete their tax returns online through the portal site www.taxonweb.be.
